Ye Ancient Order Of FrOth BlOwers (1924-1931)

The spoof order was formed by Bert Temple (1880-1931) to raise £100 for the charities of Sir Alfred Fripp (1865-1930) who had prolonged his life by skilled surgery in 1924.

Having raised the money by late 1925, Bert and Sir Alfred were surprised and delighted when The Sporting Times started to recruit members in early 1926. By the time of their deaths, when the AOFB was wound up, 688,000 men, women, babies and dogs had been enrolled, and over £100,000 had been collected for Fripp’s children’s and other charities.
